2009-09 Leaders convention - Sept19,20

On the weekend of Saturday, Sept.19 and 20, 2009 the Conquest leaders had our first Leaders convention at Crooked Lake, Sask. The Conquest leaders gathered early Saturday morning to depart for their convention location at the Novak cabin at Crooked Lake. This was no small feat as this was the morning after the Faith of our Fathers Banquet in Regina so the early morning was a sacrifice for these boys. Please check out these pictures below and the story of their great weekend. This the start of another successful Conquest year.

In this first set of pictures we see that the boys are focusing the start of their weekend with the right focus. That's in prayer and the eucharist. This Church in Marieville, at the east end of Crooked Lake, is one of the oldest Church's in the whole province. As you can see it has been kept in wonderful shape and is a great place to worship.

The next set of pictures see the Conquest boys at play. We certainly hit a beautiful day at the lake. God blessed us in many ways. After visiting Christ to start the weekend, much of the afternoon was devoted to play time, which helped unify the boys as a team. This will be a team that will be counted on to lead Conquest in the coming year.

After a great afternoon on the lake and relaxing, we paid another visit to the Church for the first set of leader talks as well as planning sessions with the different leaders.

Then, there was more hanging out and LOTS of bean bagging before supper. It sure was a great day for mid-September!!

Sunday morning started with a great early morning hike up to the top of the valley. Now, that's committment!! The boys woke up before the sun and made it to the top of the valley just as the sun rose. At the top, Father Shane was there to great the boys where he delivered a morning meditation for the boys to start their day. What a spectacular view of the whole valley in front of us at the dawn of a new day. We then had a quick breakfast at the top of the hill before our decent. That was a great way to start the day. Despite it being early we didn't hear anyone complain.

Sunday Mass was celebrated once again in Marieville with Father Shane celebrating Mass for the Conquest boys as well as the parishioner, who were mainly year-round lake residents. The Church fills more in the summer months with vacationers, but in late September there aren't too many people left around. So, the parishioners welcomed Father Shane and the boys.

Yes, and who can forget the "we have gooot to climb the tower!!" It was a little tough getting up there but once they did, what a sight!

Prayer itself, born in Catholic families, nurtured by programs of Christian formation, strengthened by the grace of the sacraments, is the first means by which we come to know the Lord’s will for our lives. To the extent that we teach young people to pray, and to pray well, we will be cooperating with God’s call. Programs, plans and projects have their place; but the discernment of a vocation is above all the fruit of an intimate dialogue between the Lord and his disciples. Young people, if they know how to pray, can be trusted to know what to do with God’s call." Pope Benedict XVI
