2009-03 Weekend retreat - March 27-29

March 27-29 Conquest Regina hosted a weekend retreat at Leboldus High School in Regina. The retreat brought together 36 boys and 10 young men (the retreat counselors) for a weekend of growing in faith (through talks presented throughout the weekend by Brother Chrisopher Czarka of the Legionaries of Christ), sports and great activities.

The sports and activities portion featured Conquest 100 AD, the evangelization game. The scene is right after the death of St.Paul. The world is in need of new apostles to help grow the Church. The boys are divided up into 5 teams on a map similar to the board game Risk, with each team representing new evangelization teams that will set out to conquer the world for Christ. Within the setting of the retreat, the boys conquer countries (drawn on the map as 100 AD countries) through games of dodgeball. The games of dodgeball are played using points they gather going to various stations. Each station represents a different challenge in which the boys earn points. The stations included tests of strength (pushups, relay), knowledge (Catechism questions, geography and riddles), and skill (dodgeball accuracy, soccer kicking accuracy). Success at these stations enabled the evangelization teams to be equipped properly for the dodgeball battlefield. Here, the boys had exciting and fast paced fun battling the counselors and each other.

The retreat also featured great food, 2 night's sleep over (including great night time stories from Kevin), skits, great talks on lenten themes from Brother Christopher, Mass on Saturday and Sunday and more. Instead of me telling you about it, view the slideshow below or click on the frame below to see the pictures individually.

Prayer itself, born in Catholic families, nurtured by programs of Christian formation, strengthened by the grace of the sacraments, is the first means by which we come to know the Lord’s will for our lives. To the extent that we teach young people to pray, and to pray well, we will be cooperating with God’s call. Programs, plans and projects have their place; but the discernment of a vocation is above all the fruit of an intimate dialogue between the Lord and his disciples. Young people, if they know how to pray, can be trusted to know what to do with God’s call." Pope Benedict XVI
